What did Jesus mean when He said;
I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life. John 8:12
In these next two studies, we are going to set the stage for exactly what Jesus said, meant and what those hearing him really heard. We’re going to look at what was really behind the words our Savior spoke.
Let’s first spend some time trying to understand this celebration Jesus was at. This is important because, we are trying to grasp everything in the timeframe of about an hour. We are trying to understand hundreds and hundreds of years of culture, tradition and celebration, handed down from generation to generation.
Since we’re not Jewish, we are trying to understand what appears to be just a tiny little verse. But that verses, what Jesus said at that time, has more meaning, history, depth, and substance than our culture can fully grasp, because it’s not generational. So, in part 1, we’ll spend some time on the depth and width of the meaning of the celebration to understand the weight of what Jesus is about to say.
In part 2, we’ll spend some time looking at the responses to what Jesus said. There were a few different ones. As we go through them, ask yourself which one you line up with.
