The Problem With Seeing!

Healing miracles were a very rare thing in the Old Testament.  Yes, people were healed, but not that many considering the 4,000 years of Old Testament history.  It was pretty rare.  You had some healings from barrenness, Miriam and her leprosy, Jeroboam’s shriveled hand, Elisha, and Elijah raising a couple of dead kids, the healing of Naaman, Hezekiah, and of course Job.  God healed the Israelites of snake bites.  But remember, 4,000 years.

Then Jesus came along!  He did so many wonderful miracles for so many people.   John even records that the world wouldn’t be able to hold all the books if every one was written down.

And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they were written in detail, I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books that would be written. John 21:25

So if Jesus did so many miracles, what makes the healing of the blind beggar so special?  Well, out of all the healing in the Old Testament, no one was ever healed from blindness.  Everyone was waiting for the Messiah to come heal people from blindness but no one else had ever done it or received sight.  The blind beggar even reminded the Pharisees of that very fact.

Since the beginning of time it has never been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a person born blind. John 9:32

Every time Jesus did a miracle, He demonstrated that He was in fact the Messiah.  The One to open the blind eyes, prophesied in Isaiah 35:5-6.

The only problem was that the Pharisees refused to acknowledge and believe that He was the Messiah.  Jesus was a threat to their very lifestyle.  Thus, they had a problem “seeing” the truth.
